Drag out your long stripey scarf and come play at our fave caffe with sci-fi fans of all ilk.

There'll be a costume contest, but you certainly don't have to dress up. Or, cross-dress if you want - wear your tan breeches with a starfleet uniform top. Hobbits don't need to wear shoes. Carry your sonic screwdriver (I would if I had one!). But, you'll have to check your light sabres at the door!

All are welcome. It'll be a great chance for all of the sci-fi groups to mingle and visit.

lluminares is one of those magical summer events that if you've ever been to, you'll want to go again. Otherwise known as the Lantern Festival, this summer event attracts thousands of people for a quiet evening in the park to gather, wander and witness some amazing feats of creativity.

The last year this event was held was 2007, and the few of us who attended on behalf of the various science fiction groups built lanterns of a Cylon Raider, an Imperial Star Destroyer and an umbrella where it rained glowing blue drops on the inside.

This year we're getting together with the other sci-fi clubs in the Lower Mainland. Look for the "Science Fiction Fans of Metro Vancouver" banner.

Bring a blanket, bring a chair, bring munchies, bring your camera...and bring a light jacket and bug spray for when the sun goes down!
