In the 80's, Billy Crystal used to joke that he started feeling old when his teenage daughter asked him if it were true that Paul McCartney was in another group before Wings.

I'm beginning to feel that way about Doctor Who. Thanks to the new series, Doctor Who is more popular than it's ever been, but there's probably a large proportion of those new fans who are unaware that there were any Doctors before The One in the Leather Jacket.

The One in the Long Scarf? Doesn't ring a bell. The One in the Velvet Smoking Jacket and Frilly Shirt? Oh, be-HAVE! The One in the Multi-Colored Coat and Black and Yellow Striped Pants? Now you're just funning with me.

Well, for those of you who remember those eight fine gents with the Edwardian clothes sense, or who are interested in what their new favo(u)rite show looked like before the BBC started spending money on it, this is your group!

We'll meet once (or maybe more) times a month to watch one or two adventures from the first eight Doctors, as well as some bonus bits. (Ever seen "Dimensions in Time"? Tom Baker's 1990's ads as the Doctor for New Zealand old-age pensions? The licensed Auton and Yeti spinoff videos? You will!)

What members are saying

Sci-Fi is fun, real life is boring. Even campy and low budget Sci-Fi is fun.

“I have fond memories of settiling down at tea time (yes I'm British) and watching Doctor Who. When I rewatch the old episodes it's hard to imagine that I was scared of the cybermen and Daleks.”
